End-of-Life Care
Sitting Vigil
When sitting vigil, a person holds space for the transitioning person and their family members, providing stability in the environment. By being fully present at the bedside and attentive to the person’s wishes, a safe and comforting sensory environment can be created. Ideally, we would meet and discuss a vigil plan before the active dying process, but if that is not possible, the people closest to the person can assist in creating a meaningful and comfortable environment.
Vigil planning and coordination of the schedule can be done via Zoom; I am available for both this and being present to sit vigil in the Taos County region.
Respite Care
Caring for a loved one at the end of life can be deeply meaningful, but it is also physically and emotionally demanding. Respite care offers caregivers and family members the opportunity to step away for a period of time—allowing space to run errands, attend appointments, practice self-care, or simply rest. These breaks are essential during stressful times, helping to reduce burnout and support emotional and physical well-being.
By allowing caregivers to recharge, respite care promotes renewal and sustainability, enabling them to continue showing up with presence and compassion. Abigail provides day time in-home respite care, offering attentive, respectful support so families can take necessary time for themselves while knowing their loved one is being cared for.
